Facilities at St Michael’s Lodge

At St Michael’s Lodge, we pride ourselves on offering a warm, welcoming base for walkers, cyclists, and visitors seeking a tranquil yet well-equipped retreat in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. We also provide a travel cot for people with young children. Here’s an overview of the facilities available to make your stay comfortable, convenient and adventure-ready.

Kitchen

The kitchen at St Michael’s Lodge is fully equipped to make your stay as comfortable and convenient as possible. Guests have access to a double oven with hob, along with an additional induction hob if required, as well as a microwave, large and small fridge, and a freezer. Whether you’re preparing a quick meal or cooking for a group, the space is designed to cater to all needs.

You’ll also find everything you need already provided, including two air fryers, a full range of pots and pans, and plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses, and cups. Tea towels, dishcloths, oven gloves, and aprons are all included, so you can settle in and cook with ease from the moment you arrive.

Secure Bike Storage & Maintenance

Cyclists are especially well catered for. We provide a dedicated, lockable bike storage area where you can rest assured your bike is safe overnight. For those longer trips or off-road adventures, there’s a full maintenance facility on-site complete with a work stand, basic tools, and pump so you can carry out small adjustments, repairs or cleaning as needed. Plus, after a muddy ride, you can use our bike-wash station to rinse off and keep your gear in top shape.

Drying Room

After a day of walking or cycling in changing weather, our heated drying room offers the perfect place to air out wet boots, waterproofs, and cycling gear. Racks are available for boots and jackets, ensuring that your kit is ready and dry for the next day’s journey.

Sustainable travel is important to us. That’s why we offer electric bike charging points, so your e-bike is ready for the next leg of adventures. For guests arriving by EV, there are car charging points in the car park, enabling you to top up your vehicle overnight. This charger is 65p per KW, this can be arranged & paid for at the lodge.

Fire Pits & Outdoor Seating

Outside, the lodge features a lovely communal area with several fire pits, creating a relaxing space for guests to unwind under the stars. Whether you’re winding down after a long hike or gathering with fellow cyclists, the outdoor seating area is ideal for conversations, sharing stories, or simply soaking in the scenery.

Proud to Be Dog-Friendly

St Michael’s Lodge warmly welcomes four-legged friends. There is a charge of £10 per dog per night, with one dog allowed per dog-friendly room.

To ensure a comfortable stay for all guests, we ask that dogs are not allowed on beds and are not left unattended in rooms. In communal areas, dogs should be kept on a lead at all times, and they are not permitted in the kitchen.

We also kindly request that you clean up after your dog. A dog waste bin is available at the end of the driveway for your convenience.

Our dog-friendly policy is designed to make the lodge enjoyable for both humans and their furry companions, so everyone can have a safe and relaxing visit.

Parking & Accessibility

We are committed to providing clear, honest information to help all visitors make confident, informed decisions about their stay. While the lodge primarily welcomes guests from the walking and cycling community, we fully recognise that some visitors may have additional access or sensory needs. Our aim is to support every guest by being transparent about the layout, facilities, and features of the building and grounds, allowing you to assess suitability based on your personal requirements.

St Michael’s Lodge is set within the natural landscape of the Yorkshire Dales, and some areas of the site reflect the terrain and original architecture of the building. Access to certain spaces may include steps, uneven surfaces, and gravel paths. Inside the lodge, accommodation is arranged across multiple floors, and some bedrooms and communal areas are only accessible via stairs. At present, we do not have a lift, so guests with limited mobility may wish to contact us in advance to discuss room options and suitability.

We welcome guests who have sensory or cognitive access needs and provide a calm, relaxed environment with clearly signed communal areas. Lighting levels throughout the lodge are moderate and consistent, and we are happy to advise on quieter times within shared spaces. If you require additional information about noise levels, visual contrasts, or room layouts, we can provide further detail upon request.

We encourage all guests with specific access needs—whether related to mobility, hearing, vision, neurodiversity, or medical requirements to get in touch with us before booking. Our team is always pleased to answer questions, offer guidance, and provide as much detail as possible to help ensure your stay is both comfortable and enjoyable.
